I have been singing all my life and playing the piano almost as long. I am a piano teacher by trade and I love it. I've picked up other instruments along the way as well. But the one thing I have never done is compose. I tried once or twice in my early teenage years, but I wasn't happy with what I came up with, so I quit trying. I thought, "Well, I'm just not good at this," and so even though I always wanted to do more with my talents, my apparent inability to write my own music held me back. I was afraid of embarrassing myself, so I just kept believing I was not meant to write music.
Fast forward -- you can imagine my complete surprise when I wrote and arranged my first ever original song for Time For Sleep (thinking, "Well, it's just for kids. Surely I can at least write a children's song.") -- and really liked it. I had written something that I genuinely enjoyed listening to. I couldn't believe this music had come from my head. I was elated! So I wrote more and more and more...six songs in one week (a few for this album, a few for future use).
